Netherlands Top 10 Films 2024
Dutch box office receipts were down last year as reflected in the Netherlands top 10 films 2024 which earned a total of $91.1 million (-20.5%) compared to the Netherlands top 10 films 2023 which took in $114.6 million.
It was another year where Hollywood played it safe, putting its money behind big budget sequels of previously established properties. Only one film among the top 10 was from original material (It Ends With Us at #7).
Released in July 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine recorded the 19th biggest opening weekend ever at the Dutch box office with $2.7 million in ticket sales. While that may not seem extraordinary, take into account it was an ‘R’ rated movie which reduced its potential audience. In fact, it is now the Netherlands biggest opening weekend ever for an R-rated film. It can also be said that Deadpool & Wolverine earned more over its opening weekend than either Oppenheimer ($2.6M) or Barbie ($2.6M), which now drop to 20th and 21st, respectively, on the list of biggest opening weekends at the Dutch box office.
Three other 2024 movies also had sizeable opening weekends, large enough to place them among the top 50 opening weekends of all time at the Netherlands box office: Moana 2 $2.4M (#26), Dune: Part Two $2.2M (#39) and Mufasa: The Lion King $2.1M (#44).
