Shopping in the Netherlands is similar to other countries with a few exceptions:
- Standard shopping hours will seem quite limited to some expats (especially Americans). A typical Dutch retail store will be open Monday 12:00-18:00, Tuesday to Friday 09:00-18:00 and Saturday 10:00-17:30.
- Sunday shopping: Shops in larger city centers are typically open every Sunday 12:00-17:00. In mid to small cities, shops are typically open one Sunday each month (usually the first or last Sunday) from 12:00-17:00.
- Late Shopping: Shops in city centers are usually open late (until 21:00) one night per week, either on Friday or Saturday. Adjacent towns usually have a different late night than its neighbor.
- Stores in shopping malls and shopping centers (‘winkelcentrums’) usually follow the same schedule as inner city stores (i.e. open until 18:00 Monday to Saturday, until 21:00 either Thursday or Friday, closed on Sunday).
